This is awesome.

Massecre in Florida

As most know, a terrorist attacked a Nightclub in Florida. This was a direct attack on the LGBTQ community. A Hate crime.

So far I’ve seen guns, the FBI, ISIL,Muslims, and the victims being blamed for it. For me the reason is more simple.  Like every other human predator,This man CHOSE to attack the club. He chose to hate people for something that was none of his damned business. There may have been contributing factors but it’s still on him.

So this is my opinion.

May the victims find peace.

Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness month and I’m going to do some profiles. I’ll start with Alexander the Great. Obviously, his diagnosis can’t be proven, especially since there are no neutral sources as far as I know, on him.

Alexander was born in what is now Macedon, Greece, to King Phillip the II and one of his wives, Olympias. From birth, he may have been told that he was a demigod by his mother. He was highly intelligent and had the best tutors, He was just as athletic.  His Nurse and servents raised him and at 13 he was sent to boarding school. He hardly saw his dad, who was off fighting, or his mother.

When he was 16 Alexanders father left him in charge of Macedon. The boy then proceeded to conquer the Maedi, a Thracian tribe from somewhere in SW Europe. Here he founded his first city.A short time after Phillip was assassinated, a former lover his was held responsible and killed.

At 20 Alexander became the head om his father’s empire. After  which he put down the Greek rebellions and finished off the Balkans. That’s when he decided to take out the Persian empire, thus earning himself an arch nemesis.

Darius III.

Ironically many people Alexander’s army were Greek mercenaries Many of whom were Spartans.

Not that it worked.

Through cunning and the trust his men had in him, ALaxander took city after city of the Persians. Despite almost dying a couple times due to injuries from battle. Each place he won he founded a city, usually named after him and at least one named after his favorite horse, Bucephalus.

After a while, the Persians got tired of Darius and killed him themselves. This disappointed Alexander who ordered Darius be buried at the Persian capital with full honors. Alexander then hunted down and killed Darius’ usurper,Bessus.

The Persian empire was now his.

He didn’t stop  there though.

After Persia, Alexander decided to keep going, much to the exhaustion of his men. This is the time the signs of his possible mental illness became most noticeable.

Alexander’s second found  out the pointy way.  His name was Parmerio, and Alexander thought his kid was plotting to kill him.  Instead of just offing those believed to be involved, Alexander had Parmerio killed too.  He didn’t do it himself though, he made a man named Polydamus do it. By taking the man’s sons hostage.

Then their was Alexander’s friend, Cleitus.  Cleitus was peeved that Alexander was adopting the ways of the Persian.  So he told his king off. Later that, he and Alexander got drunk and killed his friend.  This triggered Alexander to go into a deep depression for three days.

After this Alexander kept making more bad decisions, like running his troops into the ground until they force him to stop his advance into Asia.  Attacking place, leading to unnecisary loss of men.

Before these murders he showed signs like achoholism, unstable temperment, reckless behavior in battle, to the point of ignoring serious wounds in battle, impulsivity, Delusions, more than usual paranoia, Detachment.depression.

Beltane and Walpurgisnacht

The fires crackles along with the beat of the drum.  The night is electric with energy as the people dance together. Gleaming bodies painted orange by the sacred flames as the spin and leap.

Beltane is celebrated May 1(Nov 1 in the S. Hemisphere). The Fae are more active in our reality during this time and offerings are left for them.

Sacred fires are lit on top of hills and livestock are driven between two bonfires made up of sacred herbs so they are hopefully protected and fertile.  People jump the flames for luck in the coming year. The nights food is cooked on these fires.

Homes are decorated with flowers. Yellow flowers are placed over the doors, in the windows. The flowers are fastened to cows and cow related equipment.

Outside of each house a May Bush is decorated. The “bush” is a small tree or branch , usually from a Hawthorne, Sycamore, or Rowan. Mine is  probably going to be a Maple branch. These are decorated with ribbons and flowers, among other things.  There are often communal May Bushes too.  These are decorated by the whole nighborhood. This occaisionally leading to compitition.

In some places the Maypole is erected.  This is a pole on wich ribbons are hung. People wound take the end of each and dance around the pole in a way that would cause the ribbons to braid around the pole.

This is a time when pilgrimages are made sacred wells.  While there, people pray for healing or health while circling from east to west.  Offerings of coins and clooties, strups of fabrics, are left. Other than wells, dew is important.  At dawn young women roll in the dewy grass, wash in it, or gather it. The idea is to increase sexual atractivness, cure skin ailments, or stay young.

It’s important to take the time on Beltane to appease the fea and other spirits of you land.  This, in the case of the fea at least ment a libation of milk poured is poured onto the steps of your front door and/or at sites they hang out.

Walpurgusnacht or Walpurgus Night.

A Catholic Saint’s Night celebrating St Walpurga, an Abess who lived in Germany.  Germanic pagans use her name or Hexenacht(Witch’s Night) The celibrations are simular to Beltane.  On this night Freyja rides with “witches”, kids may prank thier nieghbors, and people confess their love.  It’s kind of like a combo of Holloween and Valintine’s day.

WTF -The Hinterkaifeck Murders

Gruber family-The Hinterkaifeck Murders shook the public – both from the brutality and the bizarre circumstances surrounding the homicides. Police deduced that Andreas, Cäzilia, Viktoria, and young Cäzilia were somehow lured to the livestock barn and slaughtered one by one. Afterward, the killer (or killers) entered the house and bludgeoned little Josef while he slept in his parents’ bedroom. Then they headed to Maria’s room and murdered her, too.:

Hinterkaifeck homestead, The Gruber family, and their new maid were found bludgeoned to death.

The victims consisted of Maid, Maria Baumgartner(44), Patriarch And Matriarch Andreas(63) and Cäzilia(72) Gruber, their daughters Viktoria Gabriel(35),Cazilia(7-8)and 2 yr old son, Josef.

Police say that the events started about six months before, when the previous maid left, claiming the house was haunted. At the end of March, Mr.Gruger told friends of footprints in the snow leading to his farm but not away, footsteps, and a strange newspaper. None of this was reported to the police.

Sometime on March 31, The oldest four Grubers were lured to the barn and killed, the younger Cazilia, surviving a short time.  The Killer(s?) went into the house where they killed the toddler and the maid.  Their task completed, they took care of the farm animals, ate the family’s food over the weekend.

The family was found on April 4th, 1922, when no one was seen in a couple days.

Autopsies concluded the family was killed using a mattock, a hammer-like tool similar to a pickax, one side of the head flattened into a hoe.

.Rbbery was considered motive at first, until the police found a large sum in plain sight. Then Viktoria’s husband, Karl Gabriel was a suspect, he was dropped after his surviving unit confirmed they saw him die in ww1.(His body was never found though)In 2007 Police academy students came up with a suspect but have kept it uner wraps out of respect to the killer’s family.

whm- Kandake

Queen-of-MeroeWhen we think about Africa the Egyptians seem to get all the press,The totally understandable.  The Nile valley was home to a civilization just as interesting.  The Kingdom of Kush was a Nubian kingdom that lasted from 1070 BC – AD 350. It was founded at the end of Egypt’s New Kingdom in what is now Sudan.  The Kushite kingdom was also known as Ethiopia.

For this women’s history month entry, I’m focusing on the Kandake.  The Kandake was the title for Kushite queens who participated in combat.  The title translates to queen or queen-mother.  They are mentioned in the Bible and the Romances of Alexander the Great.

Alexander the Great was said to have come against the Kandake or Candace of Moroe(the capital in later years) They had a “romantic” encounter. Since Alexander didn’t go into Nubia, this is considered fantasy.

The earliest know Kandake to rule independently was Shanakdakhete(shown). Amanirrenas fended off Rome for five years. Amanishakheto is best known for her jewelry that was robbed from her tomb.  Amanitore is believed to be the kandake mentioned in the bible (Acts:8:26–40) she was one of th last rulers of the kingdom and was one of it’s greatest builders.

WHM Elizabeth Bathory

Part of history includes the crappy things.Countess Elizabeth Bathory

16th Century Countess Elizabeth Bathory wouls be an awesome role model, in charge of a huge territory she successfully defended, shrewd business woman,  loving mother and wife, she spoke and wrote multiple languages, so many positive qualities. Too bad she was Psycho.

Literally.

She grew up in a horribly violent time in a violent family.  She got away with everything, spoiled literally rotten. She would often force people into sexual relationships, same as a lot of nobles of the day.

Bathory was married at fifteen to a twenty-something general.  He took it upon himself to teach his new wife the fine art of torture.  Actually pretty normal for the time, but Elizabeth and her retainers took it to a whole new level. They tormented the people under their protection until her husband’s death.

Elizabeth appears to have been driven by sexual sadism.  Adding to the sadism was her absolute power, money, and her fortresses.  Un Substantiated claims say she bathed in blood to keep her youth.

Un Substantiated claims say she bathed in blood to keep her youth.  What we do know she did was freeze her servants to death, bite them, and set them on fire(specifically their genitalia) Those are just a very few of what she did.  Bathory was only stopped when she started going after noble women.

Bathory never got a trial, being put under house arrest, her henchmen where.  They were tortured to death.

Despite the evidence against her, there are Bathory apologists.  They try to pass her off as a doctor and healer.  Her victims would have something to say to that.

WHM-Afeni Shakur

If the name sounds familiar, she’s Tupac Shakur’s mother. She wasn’t just the late rapper’s mom, she was an activist, philanthropist, recovering addict, businesswoman, producer, and according to some, terrorist.

Afeni was born Alice Faye Williams on January  22, 1947. She changed her name to an African name. (Specifically Yoruba)

Afeni was one of the members of the Black Panther Party arrested on 189 felonies.  She and others were accused of plotting to attack police stations and shopping centers .  Acting as her own counsel Afeni was able to get the charges dropped, not before spending 11 months in jail.  Dispite the aquittal, many consider the Black Panthers a terrorist organizaton.

A month after her aquittal Afeni gave birth to her first child, a son, Tupac Shukur.  Then she went on to have a daughter,Sekiywa.  Afeni was married twice, adding stepchildren to the family, one of whom is also a rapper.  During this time Afeni contracted cocaine addiction which she now successfuly manages.

After Tupac’s murder, Afeni used proceeds from his alblums to found the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts in Stone Moutian, Georgia.  The mission for the center is to help kids from  poor families develope theit skills in the arts. Afeni also founded Amaru Entertainment, which holds the rights to Tupac’s unrealeased works.
